‘Get your Vitamin-C for Chickpea’ was a cycle of sessions taking place in the last few weeks of the term.

During weeks 10 to 12, Chickpea the dog attended Ms Panades-Estruch’s office on Fridays after lunch.

Students could come in and pet him whenever they wished.

This event brings TBLS into the worldwide trend of tackling mental health in the workplace.

Studies worldwide report a decrease in stress upon petting an animal.

These sessions helped our students relax during the busy assessment season at TBLS.

Chickpea, originally a rescue dog from the Cayman Islands Humane Society, is more than happy to help our students be the best version of themselves.

Ms Panades-Estruch said: ‘I am very proud of organising activities that contribute positively to our student community’s mental wellbeing.’

Laura Panades, LLM Course Leader and Lecturer, has published a book chapter in ‘Tax Law in Times of Crisis and Recovery’.  This book is relevant because it identifies lessons learned on how States reappraise their public finances during crises. This is an edited book by three top University of Cambridge educators:  Dr de Cogan, Dr Brassey and Prof Harris. Hart Publishing, the publisher, is a market leader in legal studies and a powerhouse for legal thought.

“Counting doubloons. A critical assessment of how Caribbean British Overseas Territories are funding the COVID-19 response” is Panades-Estruch’s chapter. The chapter analyses the public finance responses of Caribbean British Overseas Territories to COVID-19. Cayman, like the majority of countries worldwide, had to put its economy on standby and deal with a major loss of public revenue. Cayman developed the best and most comprehensive response across the Caribbean BOTs. Our country developed a multi-pronged strategy involved cash reserves, public debt and a commercial line of credit. This ensured readiness, resilience and risk diversification.

We are delighted to announce our Assistant Director Andrew Perkins inclusion in the recently published Elgar Research Handbook on Global Capital Markets Law edited by Iris H.-Y. Chiu, Professor of Corporate Law and Financial Regulation, University College London and Iain G. MacNeil, Alexander Stone Professor of Commercial Law, University of Glasgow.

Andrew’s chapter entitled Regulating Market Abuse : an Offshore Perspective explores the differences within market abuse regulation from an offshore perspective by charting the development of offshore capital markets and establishing core benchmarking standards from Market Abuse Regulations against which their efficacy can be judged. The Chapter then discusses the regulation of market abuse in the Cayman Islands, Mauritius, and Guernsey before going onto make recommendations to ensure that market integrity can be maintained in offshore jurisdictions who trade in sophisticated financial instruments.
