Ms Panades brings declassified documents on Caymanian history to the spotlight in leading conference

Ms Panades was invited to the prestigious Society of Legal Scholars annual conference to present her latest research.

This research brings recently declassified documents to the spotlight.

In ‘Learning the ropes – A critical understanding on the foundations of offshore financial jurisdictions’, Ms Panades’ demonstrates that Cayman, the UK and the international community contributed to Cayman’s decision to become an offshore financial centre.

Ms Panades’ research advances scholarly literature, which had only focused on Cayman.

This research is essential because it improves our understanding of Caymanian history.

Her talk received good feedback and spurred debate among scholars in the banking and finance law section.

This year, TBLS partner Oxford Brookes University hosted the conference.

Ms Panades is very grateful to the Cayman Islands National Archives for enabling the community to access valuable documents on Cayman’s history.

Ms Panades is grateful to the Portfolio of Legal Affairs for sponsoring her attendance to the conference. This is evidence of the Cayman Islands Government’s commitment to push forward Caymanian scholarship.

TBLS features in a new local legal podcast

Miss Panades has been invited to a new podcast to advertise TBLS locally.

This is the inaugural session of the local, legal podcast.

‘Legal talk with Patricia Bryan’ will cover legal news, careers advice and raise awareness about legal issues.

Miss Bryan and Miss Panades discussed the TBLS programmes, the Law School’s history and admission criteria.

The programme praised diversity at the Law School within the student community, with its mix of high schoolers, mature students, and local and international pupils.

Ms Panades said: ‘This is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness locally about our small and mighty Law School.’

The podcast will air on Monday, 26th June, at 5pm on Bobo FM – 89.1 FM. Links following shortly.

Chickpea, the Law School’s unofficial pet, provided some mental health relief to TBLS students this term

‘Get your Vitamin-C for Chickpea’ was a cycle of sessions taking place in the last few weeks of the term.

During weeks 10 to 12, Chickpea the dog attended Ms Panades-Estruch’s office on Fridays after lunch.

Students could come in and pet him whenever they wished.

This event brings TBLS into the worldwide trend of tackling mental health in the workplace.

Studies worldwide report a decrease in stress upon petting an animal.

These sessions helped our students relax during the busy assessment season at TBLS.

Chickpea, originally a rescue dog from the Cayman Islands Humane Society, is more than happy to help our students be the best version of themselves.

Ms Panades-Estruch said: ‘I am very proud of organising activities that contribute positively to our student community’s mental wellbeing.’
